NEC Corp. of America Introduces Enhanced POS System
NEC Corporation of America has introduced two complete point-of-sale (POS) transaction management systems designed for small, medium and large retailers who want to lower costs and simplify the checkout experience for customers.

Unveiled at the 2008 National Association of Convenience Stores (NACS) Show, the TwinPOS 5500 and TwinPOS 3500 are the next generation of NEC POS systems; offering the flexibility and reliability demanded by the retail industry.

NEC's TwinPOS 5500 operates on either Microsoft Windows Embedded for the Point of Service (WEPOS) or Linux, and is ideally suited for retail environments, such as grocery and convenience stores, as well as quick-service environments. For enhanced functionality, customers can add a magnetic card reader and customer display unit to the NEC TwinPOS 5500. In addition, the NEC TwinPOS 5500 and TwinPOS 3500 feature enough power and memory to additionally support back-office functions.

NEC's TwinPOS 3500 is designed and built to deliver high durability and reliability in a rugged POS terminal and is also ideally suited for retail environments, such as grocery and convenience stores, as well as quick-service restaurants.

Leveraging Ultra Low Voltage (ULV) Intel Celeron M processor at 600 MHz and Microsoft's WEPOS operating system, TwinPOS 3500 delivers renowned NEC reliability and dependability in a more compact solution. TwinPOS 3500 features a 2.5 GB flash storage with zero spindle architecture to minimize hardware failure. Like the TwinPOS 5500, the NEC TwinPOS 3500 also offers customers the option to add on both the magnetic card reader and customer display unit.

The NEC TwinPOS 5500 and TwinPOS 3500 are available immediately to U.S. retailers, either through channel partners or direct sale.
